Reminding myself that sewing is my hobby for a rea

Reminding myself that sewing is my hobby for a reason—I do genuinely find fulfilment in constructing something purposeful—but I think this is the first thing I've sewed all year, and it's been sitting cut out since December 28th or something and it's now April 2.

This is a pair of #ArdenPants that I've been promising to make for my mum out of magpie fabric for maybe a year or more now.

There's just so much stuff to *do* and it's all so overwhelming sometimes that you just don't want to do any of it 🤷

We've moved work offices, which is overall pretty shit, but it means we're near the MCA (Museum of Contemporary Art) and I took a long lunch break on Monday to go see the Do Ho Suh exhibition before it closed, having seen so many instagram posts about it :)

Photo 1&2: the artist covered his dad's house in paper and did rubbings of all the textures, then took off the paper and reassembled it into a 3D copy of the house. It's 3D, but the textures of the walls are all 2D.

Photo 3,4&5: Copies of his New York apartment room and various everyday items, but made out of fabric.

Photo 6&7: glass platform held up by thousands of little people. Standing over their little hands felt really really uncomfortable.

Photos with me in them are by Mr Octopus, and he really needs some more portrait taking lessons 🙃

Today's craft was woodworking class at @amongthetr

Today's craft was woodworking class at @amongthetrees.sydney where I made this step stool (shown here with a mug for scale)

It was a 9-3 class and almost everyone (except me) was basically all done in that time with cutting, assembling and finishing, so I think it's a pretty good scale project for this class, which was all done using hand tools. Would recommend to others!

(although maybe not on a hot day if you don't like the heat? (nobody else seemed to be sweating themselves to death like me, but maybe they were just less visibly drippy about it 🤷))

Since everyone else was basically done finishing while I was still putting the legs on, plus I had to go pick up Mr Octopus and Sewing Helper from rock climbing down the road, I finished up once I'd got the legs to be relatively even, because I can sand and oil at home. Sewing Helper has already claimed it as her own for ever, which was extremely predicable 😂

Having spent most of spring and summer languishing in the huff pile (*it* knows what it did....) I have finally returned to this particular WIP.
/
Did some measuring and some maths, and frogged an entire sleeve (the first of two that need frogging, sigh) and am starting the sleeve again. Have told Mr Octopus that this means I'll be much more receptive to watching TV and movies in the evenings again 😂

(the issue was that the gauge was too small, because I'd sized down in needles because the pattern recommended it for the non-colourwork sleeves, but I ended up with 11 rows per inch rather than my original 8 rows per inch, so the decreases finished halfway up the wrist. I've gone back up to the main needle size (2.75mm, because my gauge is eternally too large) and made a couple of mathematical alterations, and it should work now. Hopefully. I'll be measuring MORE OFTEN.)

Bought this convertible backpack online 18 months ago, and the zipper was kinda bodgy and the lining was cheap and unbalanced because of the internal pockets (see photo 2), so I decided to reline it, but of course it's been sitting partially disassembled in a box ever since. Finally got onto finishing it today ☺️

Argh, fuck you, iron + bra tulle + insufficient he

Argh, fuck you, iron + bra tulle + insufficient heat protection which I am extremely annoyed about because I *TESTED* it in advance and it didn't bloody melt then 🤬🥵🤬🥵
